Save your eyes from Computer vision syndrome

Computer vision syndrome refers to eye related problems due to long continued computer use.
The following symptoms may be present in people who spend much time in front of computer screen:
Dry eyes
Irritation and burning sensation in eyes
Redness
Eye fatigue
Blurred vision and difficulty in reading
Light sensitivity (Photophobia)
Headaches
Neck and back stiffness/pain

The following tips may help prevent Computer vision syndrome and may help in improving the vision.
Ergonomics:
When working at a computer for any length of time, be sure that your knees are bent at a 90 degree angle and that your lower back is well supported by an ergonomic chair.
LCD monitors are better when compared to CRT monitors. The monitor should be 20 inches away from your eyes to avoid much strain. Proper lighting is essential, which should not be too bright or too dim. Adjust the lighting in the working room to avoid glares.
Specialized computer eye wears:
Some people may need specialized computer glasses with ARC (Anti reflective coating). Consult your Ophthalmologist to select the suitable eye wear.
Relaxing the eyes:
Relaxation is needed for over strained and tired eyes. Follow the instructions below to give relaxation to your eyes.
*Take periodic micro breaks amidst work.
*Blink frequently. Make it a habit to blink your eyes whenever you press the enter key. Or Blink continuously for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes to provide rest to the eyes.
*When your eyes are tired after spending too much time in front of a computer screen, you can try Palming. covering your eyes with your palms for a minute or two will relax the eye muscles.
*Close your eyes and splash them with pure cold water. This would ease tension and eyestrain. Do this at least once a day.
*Bates eye exercises or Yoga based eye exercises may be helpful in improving vision and to counter the bad effects of eyestrain. (Seek Professional help to learn these exercises).
The role of diet in improving the vision and in preventing damage:
Nourish your eyes, the nerves and blood vessels that supply them, by increasing the intake of fresh organic fruits and vegetables. Yellow and orange colored fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants such as Beta carotene, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin C. Antioxidants can prevent eye damage.
